Lesson 14
My Last Lecture
"... by small and simple things are great things brought to pass ...." (Alma 37:6) Most people think that in order to make a difference in the world they need to do something on a grand scale. I believe we can make the biggest difference in the world by doing the small and simple things. The best way to know how to go about doing this is to "never suppress a generous thought" (Sister Camilla Kimball) and be bold in following the spirit.
In order to be the best we can be at doing the small and simple things we need to figure out what our personal ministry is. President Kimball said,
"Remember, in the world before we came here, faithful women were given certain assignments while faithful men were foreordained to certain priesthood tasks. While we do not now remember the particulars, this does not alter the glorious reality of what we once agreed to. You are accountable for those things which long ago were expected of you just as are those we sustain as prophets and apostles!" (Pres. Kimball)
It's our responsibility to find that role, but we need to be careful and not look too hard. Why? Because we are most likely fulfilling it without realizing ... if we are truly going about doing those small and simple things like courting our spouse, listening to our children, serving our family and neighbors, never suppressing a generous thought ... keeping our baptismal covenants. The things that are most important in our personal ministries are found in Mosiah 18:8-10
"...as ye are desirous to come into the fold of God, and to be called his people, and are willing to bear one another’s burdens, that they may be light;

Yea, and are willing to mourn with those that mourn; yea, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort, and to stand as witnesses
of God at all times and in all things, and in all places that ye may be
in, even until death, that ye may be redeemed of God, and be numbered
with those of the first resurrection, that ye may have eternal life—
Now I say unto you, if this be the desire of your hearts, what have you against being baptized in the name of the Lord, as a witness before him that ye have entered into a covenant with him, that ye will serve him and keep his commandments, that he may pour out his Spirit more abundantly upon you?"
This is what I feel is most important in life, the small and simple things.
